Benefits of regional geologic mapping: The maps below show the relative age of mapped faults in the Mojave Desert region of California based on regional geologic mapping and associated field research. The faults are categorized by age of the last (youngest) observable rupture of datable sedimentary cover observed along fault scarps. The next image highlights detail of the most recently active (Holocene) faults in the region.
