Geology-ecology mapping and land-use applications: Human activities have become dominant forces affecting changes on the landscape, and where unmitigated can have catastrophic effects on natural ecosystems and human quality of life. The example below illustrates how combining datasets (surficial geologic mapping, plant/soil characteristics, and off-highway vehicle tracks information derived from old and recent aerial photography) was used to create an ecological resource map suitable for land-use decision making efforts.
