San Andreas Fault System
in the Inland Empire and Salton Trough

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the San Andreas Fault System in the Inland Empire and Salton Trough regions of southern California.

This web tour uses for its text a report released by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1992 (Matti and others, 1992). The web text is identical in scientific and textual content to the 1992 report. The web tour includes photographs illustrating fault features in the Inland Empire and Salton Trough regions. These photographs and their captions are not part of the report by Matti and others (1992), but are included here to illustrate features discussed in the 1992 report.

Matti, J.C., Morton, D.M. and Cox, B.F., 1992, The San Andreas fault system in the vicinity of the central Transverse Ranges province, southern California: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 92-354 , 40 p., scale 1:250,000.

NOTE: This report contains a PDF file that requires a portable-document file reader to examine and read. Link to Adobe Acrobat Reader to download a free version of a pdf reader. Depending on your browser's setup, you may read the file now or save it to your disk.

Two large-format plates that accompany the 1992 report are not displayed on this web page. The plates can be obtained from the U.S. Geological Survey by using the procedures for obtaining Open-File Reports described at " Ordering USGS Publications."
