Chuck's USGS career started in 1981 working in the Alaska Branch with the famous Alaskan geologist Dave Hopkins. In 1982 he join the Branch of Paleontology and Stratigraphy where he stayed until its demise in the reorganization of 1994. Since that time he has worked for the Western Earth Surface Processes Team.


SPECIALTIES:

Chuck specializes in northeastern Pacific (Alaska to Mexico) Tertiary and Quaternary molluscan faunas, although he also works with brachiopods, arthropods, and echinoderms.

CURRENT SCAMP ACTIVITIES:

  • A new late Pleistocene fossil locality in upper Newport Bay, Orange County, southern California
  • Deadman Island revisited - a new look at the late Quaternary of the Los Angeles Basin based on molluscan faunas
  • Quaternary molluscan biostratigraphy in the greater Los Angeles Basin, southern California
  • Age and environmental review of molluscan faunas of the Santa Barbara Formation, Santa Barbara County, southern California
