Looking East from Blue Ridge
Looking east from Blue Ridge, the western boundary of the Blue Ridge and Great Valley of the Valley and Ridge provinces, to Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. The craggy peaks of light rock are billion year old leucocratic Old Rag Granite. Beyond the peak is the dissected plateau of the Piedmont province that is underlain by less resistant polymetamorphic rocks.
