Geologic Interpretation of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

Project Goals and Products:

USGS scientists have been cooperating in regional geologic mapping in the Delaware Water Gap region. They are working in cooperation with National Park Service Interpretive staff on developing trip guides to the park and lead field trips for earth science teachers from eight regional school districts. A two-day workshop will also be held, and the school curricula written. Further work will be undertaken with park staff in the preparation of several geologic field guides that will also include input from NPS on biology, culture, history, and anthropology of the region. Several geologic maps have already been completed and are to be digitized and included in the NPS Geographical Information System (GIS) map database.
