Golden Canyon

Golden Canyon is located on the Badwater Road, three miles south of the Furnace Creek Visitor Center.

Suggestions for your visit

A gentle, self-guided trail winds through this colorful canyon. From the paved parking area at 160 feet below sea level, the trail climbs about 300 feet in one mile. A trail guides focusing on the geology of the area is available at the Furnace Creek Visitor Center. For the more adventurous, it is possible to hike another 0.5 mile up canyon to Red Cathedral, or to hike out of Golden Canyon to Zabriskie Point or Gower Gulch. The late afternoon lighting on the golden lake sediments is particularly beautiful.
