SPECIALTIES:
Geologic mapping, Pacific Northwest geology, Cordilleran tectonics, GIS, digital elevation model (DEM) assessment and development, and surface (geomorphic) mapping.
CURRENT WORK:
Ralph's current work includes- Mapping the geology of Bainbridge Island and the Suquamish area, west of SeattleMapping landscape surfaces (geomorphology) throughout the Salish LowlandHelping upgrade the regional elevation data set for the Salish Lowland via participation in the Seattle Area Natural Hazards initiative , the Puget Sound LIDAR Consortium, and collaborative work with UW colleagues.Completing 1:100,000 and smaller scale maps of the North Cascades, with Rowland Tabor Compiling 1995-1999 field work in the Bellingham 30x60-minute quadrangle at 1:100,000 scaleCollaborating on GIS aspects of the GeoMapNW with Elizabeth Barnett, Derek Booth, and Kathy Troost.Providing regional geology expertise to earthquake hazards investigations in western Washington, collaborating with other USGS staff, WaDGER staff and the Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network.Working with Elizabeth Barnett, Karen Meagher, Craig Weaver (all USGS) and Don Ballantyne (EQE Inc.) on lifelines maps for the I-5 corridor.
- Investigating the paleogeography of the northwestern Cordillera (North Cascades and western British Columbia) with Brian Mahoney (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire) and Randy Enkin (Geological Survey of Canada)
