The Cape Mendocino and Eureka maps depict the geology of the Mendocino triple junction. This area includes the southern end of the Cascadia subduction margin; the northern end of the San Andreas right-lateral transform fault system; and one of the most seismically active yet least understood structural provinces in the world. This area was the site of the 1991 magnitude 6.0 and 1992 magnitude 7.1 Cape Mendocino (Honeydew and Petrolia) earthquakes.
